We made a stamp book with 100 stamps.
We licked a lollipop 100 times.

Soapstone Carving

Today our class got to be a part of a soapstone carving workshop, along with some of the other classes at Linwood.  Michael ManyEagles showed us how to carve arrowheads out of a piece of soapstone using files.  We polished the stones, decorated them with etchings and then Michael made a hole in them so we could wear them as necklaces.  We enjoyed learning a new type of art!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to one of our classroom scientists who entered the Linwood School Science Fair with a fabulous project on "Stars!"

Special Guest

On January 31, we were lucky to have Kyle from the Living Prairie Museum come to our classroom and do a presentation on Manitoba animals in the winter.  We played a game where Kyle showed us animal tracks in the snow, we heard the animal's sounds and from those clues, we had to guess the animal.  He brought lots of interesting artifacts from the Living Prairie Museum such as deer antlers, bison horns and furs from all sorts of Manitoba animals!

Our Winter Work!

We have been working very hard learning about winter in Winnipeg through our "different kinds of smart" centers!
We have been making a class mural showing what animals in Manitoba do in the winter.
We have been writing songs about animals in winter.
We have been cutting out and sorting animals according to what they do in the winter.
We have been taking class surveys to see what activities our friends enjoy most during winter.
We have also been thinking and writing about whether we would like to live in Winnipeg, where we have a snowy winter or a place like Mexico, where it is hot all year long!
