By the end of Grade 1, the goal is for students to be able to solve addition and subtraction problems with answers to 20 and to use the strategies of drawing a picture, looking for a pattern, acting out or using manipulatives and using logical reasoning to solve non-routine problems.
Robert says that problem solving helps him be a good thinker and learner. Chantel says problem solving gets her smarter! Evelyn says it helps her get better at numbers and Atley says he is good at solving problems now!
If you have any questions about Grade 1 problem solving, please feel free to ask.
