Happy New Year!

Welcome back!  We hope you had a restful holiday!  This term we will be learning about winter and how humans adapt and prepare for winter - especially in Winnipeg!  We will also be learning about what Manitoba animals do in winter.  We will be using vocabulary such as migration, hibernation and torpor.  Get ready to learn along with the students!

In math our big focus will be learning addition and subtraction with numbers to 20.  The students will be learning new math games to help them practice their addition and subtraction skills.  Many of these games can be played with just dice or cards, so please invite your child to teach you these games  and you can play them together at home!

  1. Dear Mrs Turner and Ms Jensen:
I am Noah's Gramma who has been in Florida since the middle of November. I love going on your site and checking to see what the children are learning about. Thank you both so much for this wonderful experience called "Grade One" at Linwood School!
I noticed that the children were learning about migration and hibernation. I find it very interesting down here to see large flocks of our birds that we see in Manitoba in the spring and summer. The robins, geese and crows are all on holidays like us, down here in Florida. Several days ago we had a flock of 50 or so robins on the lawn across the street from us. Also, we can pass right by the alligators on the shore and they don't move. It is cooler than normal down here so they are hibernating now. Can I send you pictures from this site or by email?
