Field trip!

Today we took the transit bus to visit the Living Prairie Museum. Our program was called "The Scoop on Poop" and we learned interesting and funny facts about animal's poop! We got to take a walk in the endangered natural prairie ecosystem with Tom and Sara. We saw many living things when we walked slowly and observed nature carefully.

Sara taught us all the different names for poop.

 We passed around fake poop to see what it looks like. Gross!

 Tom taught us that crows love to eat ants and told us the name of many plants and flowers.

 Tom put his hand in an ant hill to show us that these ants are harmless. Brave!

 Can you see that deer hiding in the bushes? We could.

At the end of our field trip. The kids were encouraged to come back with their families.

Creepy Crawlies

Today we received a class set of Painted Lady larvae. We prepared the food, set up the vials and each child has two caterpillars to watch grow and develop.  How exciting!

The Environment

We have been hard at work learning about the environment and how people and animals depend on the environment.  We have also been thinking about ways that we - in Grade 1 - can do things to help and protect the Earth!  We have been working at our different kinds of smart centers about the environment!

The students had to find items in magazines that they could reuse and recycle.

We are planting our flower seeds.  We will water them,  watch them grow and then we get to take them home!

Green Games

We created game boards with a partner and wrote some great questions cards that make players think hard about how to help the Earth. We had so much fun playing the games at the end of the day!

In health, we are learning about dental health and how to take care of our teeth. After reading some books about teeth, the children represented their learning by creating an image and text about teeth using the KidPix program.
