Teacher for the Day

In Room 8 we have been learning about persuasive writing. Over the week, we have enjoyed numerous Mo Willems "Pigeon" books and saw how the pigeon tried to convince others to let him have a puppy, a hot dog and to drive a bus! The Grade 1s decided to write their teachers to let them be teachers for the day. All week long, they worked on creating interesting hooks for their writing, including reasons why they would be great teachers and created a strong ending. Was that writing convincing! So today, the kids are in charge. Each child was the teacher for a part of the day, leading the math problem, selecting the games in gym, reading the class a story and helping during writing. Well done boys and girls!

Here are a few samples of the writing:

Polar bear dioramas

The students of Room 8 are polar bear exerts! As part of the Language Arts curriculum, student explore the inquiry process and learn how to ask questions and seek out information. They can't wait to share their non-fiction chapter books about polar bears with their families! Today they represented their learning by creating dioramas. There were smiles all around as the children were able to use their imaginations to find ways to show information visually. Finished dioramas will be displayed for the upcoming conferences.

Science Fair

We are so proud of Mattejas and Zeida who participated in Linwood's Science Fair! They worked very hard at home learning about their topics and were beaming with pride when we toured the projects. Well done!!!
