Guest Authors

Today Room 8 had a delightful surprise! We had four students from Ms. Vincent's class who had written and illustrated their own picture books about courage. We loved listening to them read and enjoyed their detailed illustrations.

Avery said: "I loved the way Maggie's story ended."

John said: "I loved the whole thing and I wish I could copy it." (About Canyon's story)

Drayson said: "I loved the clouds", Cameron said: "I liked the beautiful writing" and Ashley said: "I liked the pretty colours in Jordan K.'s book".

When listening to CJ's story, Carl, Tristan and Landen all said "I liked the part when she skydived."

Our Beautiful Oops!

We read a wonderful story by Barney Saltzberg called "Beautiful Oops."  We talked about how we feel when we make mistakes or are nervous about making mistakes.  The book showed us that mistakes are just opportunities and that beautiful things can be created from mistakes. We then made mistakes on purpose and turned them into beautiful pieces of art!

Winter Fun

We have been learning about how people and animals adapt to winter. One of our previous staff members, Mr. Baker, is now teaching in Florida. Our class decided to create beautiful art about having fun in winter. We are now writing explainations of these pictures to share with the students in Florida. Writing for a real audience has motivated the children to include many important details about getting ready for outdoor fun, how to play outside and how to warm up afterwards. We will have those Florida kids wishing for snow!!!
